Willersey Quarry, Willersey Village, Cotswolds

Stone for building was easy to deliver down hill from the quarry up the hill. If you travel up Campden Lane and turn right towards the Golf Club then you have passed through the now disused Willersey Quarry mostly on the right hand side of the road. The Saintbury quarry was mostly on the left hand side of the road.
Since William Smith last worked Willersey quarry for repairing roads and Buckle Street it has been left to nature and has many interesting plants. Coincidentally at the beginning of 2026 a project has been started documenting and cataloguing the fauna and flora in Willersey quarry. The parish council are keen that nobody enters the quarry as it's unstable and potentially dangerous but they are allowing Terrence Richardson to photograph it with his drone and selection of zoom lenses from a distance. The photographs will be taken throughout the year's seasons and shared with Lena Stranks and two professional botanists who between them will identify the flora.
The end goal is to show residents of the village, many of who would not be able to physically see the quarry, the beauty of this natural nature reserve, which hasn't had human interference for over 100 years (apart from the occasional fly tipping).
