The Welcome Café (report to the annual Parochial Church meeting)

The Welcome Café has created a safe friendly environment to bring people into the Church. Villagers come to meet and make friends or sometimes visit on their own as they know we will always chat with them. Many a holiday maker or visitor from nearby villages are very happy to find us too. An average of 40 people weekly, rising with events. We as you know have a donation jar which helps with church expenses and people with fewer funds.
It is a great privilege to meet so many interesting people and learn about their lives; we always chat with them which is so nice. We are grateful to have donations of cakes and savouries from villagers, sometimes the children like to bake for us too.br> Malcolm, Gillian, Christine and Richard are regular volunteers with a rota being provided for anyone else who would like to help. A young lady that The Reverend Jodie our curate referred to us, comes when she can, to get catering experience. Carolyn is an excellent help with the children providing crafts for them to do while their mothers chat. There is a board in the children's corner where you can see their work. We are very pleased to welcome the mums now. It took a while for them to try us but after one mum had a good report on us, we now have up to a dozen children regularly during the school term which is a delight.br> Back in February we celebrated our first birthday. We put up bunting and decorations , regulars baked and donated birthday cakes. The children made celebration cards with Carolyn and a wonderful time was had by all with 57 attendees.
We regularly post on the Willersey Facebook page, so villagers are kept informed of news and events. Photos of all events are on the Willersey site. More recently we celebrated VE day as it fell on a Thursday. We decorated the church with bunting, flags and memorabilia. Many people donated war time bakes. A few dressed up in war time attire with many talking about war time experience and stories and 80 people attended.
It was an amazing atmosphere people had such fun. We look forward to the future with excitement and all that is happening in St Peter's . The money we raise goes towards local good causes. Recently together with the family we have supported the funding of a new bench for the church yard in memory of Canon Anthony Harvey. It is lovely to see it in situ in remembrance of a much loved and admired man.    The Welcome Cafe Team 2025
