August Bank Holiday Monday

   Willersey Fete Poster

We are delighted at the success of the
Willersey Summer Fete on the Village Greens on August Bank Holiday Monday 30th 2021 from 2pm for about three hours.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Willersey Summer Fete and the Dog Show. We raised over £2000 for our community fundraising project to repair the church roof. We are so grateful to all of our fabulous helpers and volunteers, without whom we could not have run the Fete. The raffle was amazingly popular thanks to such generous prize donations from local businesses. We really appreciated them all. Thank you to all the dog show sponsors. The event was a great success with the most entries we have every had! We had a super range of stalls including charities and local crafts and businesses. Both the Guide Dogs and Cotswold RDA raised over £250 each for their vital work - well done to them! If you would like to register your interest for a stall next year, please email      See you all on August Bank Holiday Monday 2022!

A Great Willersey Summer Fete

Saint Peter's Summer Fete on August Bank Holiday Monday exceeded our most optimistic aspirations, raising over £2,000 for Saint Peter's Church Roof Appeal. This great success extended to the two worthy charities in attendance and our village organisations. Riding for the Disabled and Guide Dogs for the Blind raised over £250 and £350 respectively and the Women's Institute's stalls raised an amazing £990. The Church Roof appeal was boosted by the WI donating £100, the Village Hall Committee's ‘Splat the Rat’ donating their proceeds to it and the Horticultural Society splitting all of their proceeds of £120 equally between the Church Roof Appeal and the Methodist Church. This generosity will put us well on the way to being able to embark on the much-needed repairs to the roof of our beautiful, ancient church.

Whilst fund-raising was a goal, the main aim for the day was to bring parishioners together and draw in and welcome others from outside to enjoy an afternoon of fun and fellowship in our lovely village. That was fully realised. The rain held off, Willersey has never been busier and the crowds came, determined to have a great time. People made their way up Church Street to queue patiently for the wonderful ‘Teas in the Church’ and 50 children took part in ‘Messy Church’ craft activities. The Punch & Judy man had the children participating fully, jumping up and down and shouting at Mr Punch's wicked antics. The Fun Dog Show attracted over three times as many canine competitors as any previous year.

The success of the event was dependent on many essential contributions. Unprecedented generosity by our sponsors contributed hugely and gave us a phenomenal array of wonderful prizes for the Grand Raffle. Gillian and her hard-working team delivered a brilliant service with the church teas. As always, we were all grateful for Nigel running the great, traditional skittles attraction, in aid of the Church Roof Appeal this year, and organising the agricultural exhibits and to Peter for making his garage available for the all the classic vehicles and displaying his own impressive collection. Thank you to the smiling, hard-working volunteers who served so diligently on our stalls and attractions and to Disco Dave our dynamic and entertaining Master of Ceremonies. We are particularly grateful, to Carol, our impartial, external judge for the Dog Show and to Adine for all her hard work in making the it such a storming success, standing bravely all afternoon on an ankle that had been operated on only days earlier. And thank you to everyone who turned out determined to enjoy the fun, spend money on such good causes and spend some time together.

At 8:05am on the day after, Lead Organiser, Jess Ingles, called together as many Fete Committee members and volunteers as she could muster for a Lessons Learnt session. So, we're looking forward positively to doing it all again – only even better - on August Bank Holiday Monday, 2022.

There were local craft stalls, classic cars and vintage tractors display, raffle, tombola, teas in church with children 's craft activities, magician show, bell ringing, a visit from a fire engine and lots more family fun! You could see a bee observation hive.

They came back! ?? Chipping Campden Fire crew had kindly arranged to come to the fete for the whole afternoon, but unfortunately they were called away almost immediately as one of 12 fire crews to attend a huge blaze in Long Marston. They made it back in time for the last few remaining lucky children to see and hear the fire engine, and to enjoy very well-deserved ice creams. This really highlighted the vital service that our local retained firefighters provide. ??Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service are recruiting and we have vacancies at Chipping Campden Fire Station?? If becoming a firefighter in your local community interests you, pop up to the station on a Tuesday night to meet the crew! They train every Tuesday between 6:30pm to 8:30pm and look forward to seeing you!

( After much thought and consideration, the Show Committee decided that there was no Horticultural Show in 2021 year in the Village Hall.
The decision was based on Covid 19 uncertainties and increased covid risk in enclosed spaces.
We would however like to see everyone back supporting the Show in 2022.      Horticultural Committtee )
